Scripture: Genesis 1:26a
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness” KJV
In June of 1975 Earl Wesley of Bonita, California patented a coin cleaner. His patent states:
“A two-constituent combination of phosphoric and nitric acids with a minimal volume of water. The composition is designed to remove stains, corrosion, dirt and encrustations from coinage metals composed mainly of copper, silver, brass, bronze and gold. No abrading action is required and there are no adverse effects on the substrate.”
In effect he is saying by dunking coins in his solution they will become sparkling clean with no adverse reaction. A dull image on a 1960’s Kennedy Half Dollar or a grungy 1935 Liberty Silver Dollar, when dunked in his solution can look like new, after just one application.
Originally we were made in the image of God as stated in Genesis. But over time bad habits, bad attitudes, addictions and anger give way to sin which distorts our image. Based on age the Kennedy Half Dollar should be in better condition than the Liberty Silver Dollar but the great thing about God is he has a better coin cleaner than Earl Wesley. And it is not based on age.
When I was born again it didn’t matter how long or how far I strayed from God’s original image of me. Once I was dunked in HIS solution of forgiveness my image was good as new.
Prayer: Father help me to regularly dunk in your forgiveness to stay true to your image. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
