12/15/06 - SA 2007 Team Member - Sean
Sean is single from Brooklyn Park, Minnesota There is a current series of films starring Tom Cruise called Mission Impossible. The premise of the series is that the assignments Tom receives are only do-able by him. Sean has another way of referring to Mission Impossible --- read on you’ll see. Sean comes from a Christian family of construction workers so his work experience started when he was 14 years old. Working and school went hand in hand for Sean throughout high school. Upon graduation he entered the University of Minnesota studying psychology and political science. There he met a variety of people who soon helped him re-direct his life away from Christianity. He was quickly whisked into the club scene. However, as money became an issue for continuing his education, it wasn't long before he dropped out of school. Yet, his thirst for knowledge and quest for truth never ceased. One of his best friends invited him out to California where Sean found a new group of friends who exposed him to deeper levels of eastern religions and new age spirituality. Over the next few years, he bounced back and forth between Minnesota and California, and became more involved in the club scene, eventually growing in popularity to the point that he hosted his own night at a posh club in downtown Minneapolis. During this time, his experience and "self-actualization" in new age spirituality challenged everything he learned as a Christian.
Despite his popularity and apparent success, he was engulfed by endless partying and a religion which taught that anything and everything goes --- ultimately, however, he was left empty. In late fall of 1993 God called Sean back to his first love. His Christian life was re-invented and he made a U turn from the New Age Movement and a life of partying. Invigorated as a “Religious Right Christian” --- Sean joined the Gingrich Revolution and stepped out as a Republican for Christ. As a political activist with Christian motivation he became an enthusiastic campaigner after returning to Minnesota. In 1996, Sean's sister told him about a Bible study group called Impact where he found other young adults who were also seeking God. There he looked to re-focus his energies with a creative approach to the gospel. This "Sweet" Bible study group grew fast over the next two years and by 1999 Sean was a founding member of the La Luz church --- meeting in the Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, High School Auditorium. Sean served as leader of the Core Group Leadership Team building an exciting church for the Lord. Sean’s creative talents were an asset to the church as he established an after church --- Sunday night coffee house --- called Casa Java. Sean set up a DJ Booth each Sunday night and became known as the DJ who plays “Really Cool” Christian Music. Young adults flocked to Casa Java as Sean fulfilled his call. 2002 was a bad year which challenged Sean’s Christian commitment. As he cried out to God an answer was a few months away. God opened an opportunity for Sean to secure one of the lead acting roles in the Christian Film “My Lawyer.” In January 2003 Sean was on his way to India for 30 days of filming. This was Sean’s first opportunity to be part of a movie crew and the challenges were daunting. Very hot weather, food differences and language barriers had to be over come. Ultimately Sean passed the test of International Christian Film Evangelism and more fully realized God’s grace, power and love. Mdantsane, South Africa is Sean’s first missionary trip to Africa. His construction skills will be put to good use as the team builds a roof on the church Pastor Bill has been working on for the past three years. Sean is carrying a High Definition professional grade digital video camera with him on the trip. He plans to film the team activities and create a DVD of the experience. Sean claims the great commission as a part of his life that allows him to “mission” with “God” carrying out his command. He firmly believes all things are possible through Christ and when he is seeking the Lord and doing his work there is no such thing as “Mission Impossible.”
Matthew 19:26 “But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible”
