1/16/07 - SA 2007 - Sugar and Juice

James 1:27

“Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you” NLT

 In the past eight years Henk and Juanita at Shalom Children’s Ministry have experienced some astounding answer to prayer which sustains them even today. When they started their orphan ministry they were determined after studying the Bible not to ask for funds --- only pray and let God be their provision. Here are two examples:

In a particular dry spell for funds and food the orphans were being fed poor-age on a regular basis. Every day the same thing! One of the little girls in frustration over the same meal time after time, asked Juanita if she could add sugar for taste.

There was no sugar --- Juanita had to tell the little girl that they would have to wait on God to provide sugar for their poor-age. Juanita took the little girls hands and together they prayed for God to provide sugar.

No more than ten minutes later a car drove into their orphanage and the lady inside asked if anyone here needed sugar. Juanita looked in the trunk and there were three bags of sugar. Plenty for several weeks!

Sometime later Henk was playing soccer with a group of boys from the orphanage. It was a particularly hot spell and all Henk had for the kids to drink was water. One of the boys asked for a cold drink of juice and Henk had neither the juice nor the money to provide the juice.

Henk had all the boys gather around and they prayed that God would provide cold juice for them to drink.

Several days later Henk was in his office and a man he did not know called. This man asked if Henk could use a few cases of cold juice at the orphanage. Henk eagerly agreed and several hours later a large truck backed into the orphanage and off loaded 300 cases of juice. That was not only enough juice for the 80 kids immediately but it lasted more than a year.

Henk attributes all this to planting seeds. He says, “The Bible is very clear that when you plant a seed it will be returned to you many times over.” For Henk the process is working --- since he and Juanita started this orphanage they have taken no salary and what ever is given to them they give away to the kids.
