Scripture: Colossians 3:16b
"As you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs
with gratitude in your hearts to God” NIV

In the mid 1980’s I was on a business trip to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and had occasion to visit Christ the Redeemer statue on top of Corcovado Mountain overlooking the city. The statue is in the form of a cross asJesus is looking down with his arms stretched wide. I said to myself, “Someone was incredibly inspired by Jesus to do this.”

In the early 1990’s I was in South Africa traveling by bus from Durban to Cape Town. As we approached Cape Town we stopped on a mountain top overlooking Cape Town and took in an incredible panoramic view. The top of this mountain is called Settlers Way and at the peak is a large cross overlooking the entire valley. When I saw it I said to myself, “Someone was incredibly inspired by Jesus to do this.”

Thursday January 18, 2006 I stood with my friend Glen looking at a huge cross that was constructed on a farm near Greytown, South Africa. As I viewed the cross I said to myself, “Someone was incredibly inspired by Jesus to do this.” An hour later as Angus Buchan prayed for me it began to rain and Jesus healed me from 12 ½ years of excruciating pain in my neck and back.

January 2008 I returned with Glen to the cross on the Buchan farm --- then a few weeks later stood once again at Settlers Way with my friends Sheff and Athena  --- overlooking Cape Town, South Africa. These two recent experiences impressed on me, “Something special had been done in my life and I too was incredibly inspired by Jesus.” That being the case the way to say thank you was to construct a cross.

A few weeks ago my friends George, Rick, daughter-in-law Tammie, wife Carol and I did just that. On Minnesota State Highway 65 at the Intersection of County Road 2 --- five miles south of Mora, Minnesota (Gateway to the North) stands a 24 foot high cross with an 8 foot cross beam.

Thousands of cars per day now pass this cross as a testimony to what Jesus has done in my life. And my prayer for all those cars that pass is that each driver will say to himself as they drive by “Someone was incredibly inspired by Jesus to do this” and want to know what it is. Thank you Lord.

Prayer: Father help me to never ever forget what YOUR SON has done for me. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

Cross beams are deliverd

Materials for planting the cross

George Carlberg chisels the notch

Rick Stromberg and George Carlberg move cross beam into place
while Tammie Mantel looks on

George Carlberg secures the two beams

Pastor Bill checks the bubble for level

Rick Stromberg is operating the Bob Cat that holds
the cross in place as George Carlberg and
Pastor Bill secure the concrete mix

When finished the cross is standing tall with the sinature
three boldts holding the cross beams toghter.

Per George Carlberg the boldts represent the
Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The boldts are actually stronger
than four in holding the beam in place.
